History

Michael Plauntz operates Fractional Financial Management and Accounting; a consulting business providing Accounting and Financial Management services to growing businesses that need a part-time Controller or CFO. Michael was Director of Expense Management at SunLife Financial, a position he held for five years where he supported senior leadership through Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting processes and was known to be a bridge between Finance and Business objectives. He provides insight into expense targets and designs and delivers regular reporting against targets. He plans and builds Expense Planning models to inform Senior Management about their expense drivers. Michael has extensive experience establishing the Controllership function for a growing organization where he demonstrated expertise in accounting practices, accounting controls and accounting systems development. He delivered accurate and timely individual and combined quarterly and annual financial statements. Throughout his career, Michael has evaluated accounting and business systems to create operational efficiencies. He also builds, leads and mentors high performing teams, developing people through empowerment, delegation and learning opportunities. Michael is a collaborative leader who works with all levels of the organization to move the business forward. 

Education

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts, Honours, Chartered Accountancy Studies degree and a Masters of Accounting degree, both from the University of Waterloo. He holds Chartered Professional Accounting and Chartered Accountant designations from Chartered Professional Accountants Ontario (CPA Ontario). He has completed additional courses at SunLife Financial in Demystifying Data Analytics and Advancing High Performance delivered by Duke Corporate Education and Influencing Decisions with Data delivered by CEB Finance Leadership Academy.
